Analysis of teen movies with different audiences
Love and Basketball
Audience: Young, Urban, possibly multicultural teens, May also have an influence on those who enjoy sports. The film shows aspects of aspirations as well as partying and drinking. This makes the situation in the film appealing to the young teen audience as they can relate to the situations and interests of the characters.
The Breakfast Club
Audience: Teen audience, however could also be seen by those around their 30's as it is the time it was set and could be a source of reminiscing teen years. Teenage audience as they are relatable. Also from research we have found that the most common sub genre of teen films is comedy with both genders and different age groups, and this film shows aspects of comedy, which makes it appealing to a wide audience. The film again revolves around teens and their interests in high school thus the shared interest with the audience makes in appealing to teens.
Kidulthood
Audience: Teen Audience, although it can be assumed that the film will appeal more to males, it actually appeals to girls more, this is possibly because girls can relate to drugs, alcohol, sex, bullying, more than males. This film is largely watched by those in London, due to relation to personal identity.
Also it is appealing to teenagers and those in their early 20's because they share similar interests to the characters such as partying.
Although due to location, ethnicity of the characters, interest, gender and age (which possibly causes a slight change in audience), there is still the same overall audience, which is teens, who are most able to relate to the situations within the film.
